Messerschmitt Bf 109
was a multi-task fighter widely produced and deployed by the Germans during the WWII.  During the Battle of Britain, the Bf 109 was pressed into new roles as an escort fighter and was widely employed as a fighter-bomber as well as for photo-reconnaissance.  

The Bf 109 was credited with more aerial kills than any other aircraft. 105 Messerschmitt Bf 109 pilots were credited with the destruction of 100 or more enemy aircraft. 13 of these men scored more than 200 kills, while two scored more than 300. Altogether this group were credited with nearly 15,000 kills between them.
